It’s Never Too Late
If you are guilty of neglecting or abusing your teeth in the early years of your life (by not brushing regularly, through tobacco use, caffeine beverages, etc) you might find yourself a bit self-conscious when you smile. Whether your teeth are already exhibiting a yellowish-tinge or suffering from extreme sensitivity to hot or cold food and beverages, it’s never too late for you to improve your personal dental care routine.
Imagine this: your smile is the first thing people notice when they meet you. If you are not confident about your teeth, you will most likely become self conscious which would greatly affect the way you interact with others.
Most dentists recommend that thoroughly brushing the teeth at least 2 or 3 times a day is enough to maintain the cleanliness of the teeth and mouth. Your dentist also recommends using dental floss at least once a day. With a little practice and care, you can create a routine that will keep your smile healthy and sparkling clean.
Brushing and flossing everyday is fundamental to everyday oral hygiene. You can take it a step further by using a tongue cleaning device. The bacteria are not only found in your teeth but they are also in your tongue and in the “cheeks” of your mouth. Brushing alone will not help you achieve 100% fresh breath. You will need to clean your tongue and inner mouth cheeks as well. You can do this by simply buying a tongue cleaner. There are a lot of toothbrushes on the market today that have built in tongue and cheeks cleaner.
Brushing thoroughly at night is important. You might think that skipping that part of your bedtime routine is harmless. Going to bed with unbrushed teeth allows the bacteria in your mouth time to multiply. Accumulation of bacteria is the primary cause of halitosis (bad breath). Taking time to brush before bed will help you wake up with fresher breath and a healthier smile.
Your daily dental hygiene routine is critical to your overall dental health. Your dentist and dental hygienist can help you create a routine personalized for your specific needs.
