October is National Dental Hygiene month! Bearable Dentistry and the American Dental Association recommend that you visit your dentist and dental hygienist for a cleaning and thorough oral heath exam twice a year. Maybe it’s been 6-12 months or more since your last dental cleaning and exam. Regular exams and cleanings allow the dentist to help you keep on top of your dental health. The hygienist can advise you on oral conditions that affect your mouth and your overall health. Bacterial infections in the mouth can spread through the body and impact other health conditions. Like the old saying goes: “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Professional dental care can help you avoid costly repairs later on.

The American Dental Hygiene Association recommends that you follow these four easy-to-remember words: BRUSH-FLOSS-RINSE-CHEW

  • Brush your teeth at least 2 times a day for 2 minutes
  • Floss your teeth at least once a day
  • Rinse your mouth with mouthwash (preferably with fluoride mouthwash)
  • Chew sugar-free gum after eating when brushing isn’t available

Celebrate National dental Hygiene month. Schedule your next appointment!
